Tenuta San Leonardo, renowned winery of the Guerrieri Gonzaga family, has just received an excellent score for one of its wines: Vinous gave 91 points to Terre 2017.
This classic Bordeaux blend is the result of a careful blending of the Estate’s grapes. Terre follows in the footsteps of its big brother the San Leonardo, emerging from the same terroir and imitating its intensity and refined elegance.
Compared to San Leonardo, the wine that made the winery famous throughout the world, Terre has a shorter ageing period: 80% of the wine rests for 18 months in Slavonian oak casks; 20% is aged in barriques for 6 months. The strong personality of the terroir and the character of the vines that compose it (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere) make this wine long-lived, capable of continuing to evolve and refine in the bottle for more than 5 years.
Terre di San Leonardo has a brilliant ruby red colour and a wide and fruity bouquet, crossed by herbaceous notes. On the palate there is a perfect balance between softness, savouriness and tannic texture. It closes on dry and pleasantly bitter notes.
