VENETO, PIEDMONT AND TUSCANY, LEADERS IN WINE EXPORTS

In 2021, these three regions generated around 67% of the total value of wine exports.

“The three regions put together 4.8 billion euros out of Italy’s 7.1 billion. Veneto is at the top in terms of value (2.4 billion euros), Tuscany in terms of growth (+16%)”.

For the umpteenth consecutive year, Veneto has confirmed its position as the leading region in terms of value for wine exports: in 2021, in fact, it generated a value of around 2.4 billion euros, for an overall increase of +11.1%. The exceptional growth in Veneto was sustained by consumer interest in Prosecco, Amarone della Valpolicella and Pinot Grigio.

In second place was Piedmont which, with Barolo, Barbaresco, Gavi and Asti, generated a value of around EUR 1.2 billion. The overall growth was +12.2%. In third place we have Tuscany which, although it received the bronze medal for export value, was the first in terms of growth. The region, in fact, saw a growth of +16.4%, with a total value of 1.1 billion euros. All this thanks to exports of Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, Morellino di Scansano and Bolgheri.

“Behind the export podium regions, according to ISTAT data, comes Trentino Alto Adige, with over 614 million euros, ahead of Emilia Romagna that exceeds 409, Lombardy that comes close to 286 million euros, Abruzzo with 203 million euros of wine exports, and again, closing the Top 10, Puglia, with 178 million euros, Friuli Venezia Giulia, with 141, and Sicily, with 139 million euros”.

This is an interesting overview of Italian wine exports that shows the regions most in demand abroad, the growth of individual appellations and in general the record-breaking locomotive of exports, which in 2021 saw a growth of +12.4% over 2020.
