THE LUGANA MARKET

The white wine of Lake Garda knows no crisis, on the contrary it is increasingly in demand even at the international level.

The Lugana market continues to grow, the white wine of Lake Garda that comes from the Turbiana grape is among those with the greatest propensity to export“.

Lugana, the original denomination of Lake Garda, continues to grow and gains more and more approval both in Italy and outside national borders. In fact, in the first months of 2021, there was an increase in bottling by +11.2%. The same trend also for prices: grapes ones grew by +24% while bulk wine ones by +69%. “The drop in the ratio between stocks at the end of March and bottled, in the previous 12 months, gives an optimistic picture of the performance of the Denomination which convinced the Protection Consortium to approve the release of 50% of the bulk wine currently stored“. 8900 hl of wine were therefore made available to the Lugana producers’ chain.

These performances are also supported by the excellent quality of the 2020 vintage. Thanks to the climate, in fact, the wine has obtained an excellent balance and a great aromatic expression; it has also maintained the acidity and elegance typical of Turbiana.

2021 consecrated it first among the national white wines in the large-scale distribution, as well as being, in percentage terms, the one that, in the last two years, recorded the most important increase in this channel: +135%, in the comparison between first 4 months of 2019 and those of 2021“.
