THE INCREDIBLE RECOVERY OF CHAMPAGNE

The Champagne segment is starting to grow again and has really good expectations for the next few months.

Good news continues to arrive from the world of wine which has started to run again, launching and collecting important signs of trust“.

Within the wine market, the signs of growth are also affecting the Champagne segment, which in the first five months of 2021 recorded significant growth, compared to both 2020 and 2019. In this first half of the year, about 88.2 million bottles were sold, that is +44.2% compared to 2020. In May alone, the Champagne wineries put 22 million bottles on the market: +155.5% compared to in May 2020 and +12.8% compared to the same month 2019.

In the last year (June 2020 – May 2021) about 271 million bottles were sold, marking a +1.1% compared to the same period 2019-2020 but a -10.1% compared to 2018-2019. “Champagne shipments, in 2020, it should be remembered, decreased by 18% with a decrease of 52.5 million bottles compared to 2019, with the total going from 297.5 million bottles in 2019 to 245 million of bottles of 2020“.

The Champagne estates are confident and believe that this growth can continue over the next few months, reaching 300 million bottles sold by the end of the year.
