The 2022 Terenzi harvest started with a winter devoid of rainfall, with the vines sprouting ten days later than in previous years, and then growing vigorously thanks to the high temperatures since May. There was little but regular rainfall, which helped to avoid attacks by pathogenic fungi.
The summer was characterised by a certain drought, but the rains at the end of August and beginning of September, which arrived at the right time, made up for the damage and accelerated the ripening of the grapes, which arrived a few days earlier than last year. Thus, at the beginning of September, the harvest of white varieties and early red grapes such as Merlot was practically completed.
Sangiovese, the main grape variety, also did well, benefiting from the warm days to complete its ripening. The red grape harvest ended on Friday 23 September with the cabernet, thus a few days early, while the harvest officially ended on 3 October with the harvest of petit manseng.
The 2022 harvest was characterised by healthy grapes with a higher sugar content than the average of recent years and acidity in line with previous years. Yields per hectare were higher than last year; grape/wine yields were also good, despite the initial drought. The size of the berries and their concentration lead us to expect a harvest suited to the production of structured, long-ageing red wines.
