ST. MICHAEL EPPAN HAS BEEN HONOURED BY JAMES SUCKLING

The prestigious Alto-Tesina winery has received an excellent score for one of its wines.

The Alto-Tesina winery St. Michael Eppan recently received a very interesting score from the well-known wine expert James Suckling: Appius 2017 was awarded an impressive 96 points.

Appius is a blend of excellent white grapes, the ‘wine of dreams’, as Hans Terzer, the winery’s winemaker, defines it, who first created this label in 2010. A precious bottle, to be savoured to the very last drop.

This wine is made from Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon grapes. The vines of these four varieties are between 25 and 35 years old, and grow in vineyards facing south-east and south-west, within a subsoil characterised by the presence of limestone. Once the grapes are harvested and brought to the winemaking facilities of the San Michele Appiano winery, they ferment in barriques, remaining in contact with the yeasts and also undergoing malolactic fermentation. Also in wood and on the lees is the ageing process, which lasts one year; after bottling, before release, the wine remains to mature for 36 months in steel.

Appius has a straw yellow colour, bright and shining; and an enveloping bouquet with notes of tropical fruit and sweet spices. The palate is medium-bodied, silky and supple, with a full-bodied mouthfeel marked by a pleasant mineral and fresh vein.
