PALMENTO COSTANZO HAS BEEN HONOURED BY JAMES SUCKLING

The prestigious winery, located on Mount Etna, has received an excellent score for one of its wines.

The Sicilian winery Palmento Costanzo recently received a very interesting score from the well-known wine expert James Suckling: Bianco di Sei 2020 was awarded an impressive 91 points.

Etna Bianco ‘Bianco di Sei’ is a dry white wine of great territoriality and expressiveness. It comes from over one hundred-year-old vines located in the Contrada Santo Spirito, on the northern slope of the volcano, from Carricante and Catarratto grapes. The terroir is truly unique: the soils are composed of black volcanic sands and effusive rocks, which give the wine a definite and pleasant mineral imprint. The training system is bush-trained to better resist the constant Etnean winds and to protect the grapes from the scorching Sicilian sun.

The grapes are harvested by hand, carefully selected and brought to the cellar as quickly as possible. Here the grapes are softly pressed, followed by fermentation with selected indigenous yeasts and 10 months of ageing in stainless steel tanks in contact with the fine lees. This is followed by resting in the bottle for 8 months.

Bianco di Sei presents a straw-yellow colour and a fruity, savoury bouquet, with hints of white flowers, Sicilian lemons and peppermint. On the palate there are citrus notes and a definite marine flavour that drags the sip through to the long finish. This wine offers a pleasant and intoxicating freshness.
