NEW SCORE FOR MICHELE SATTA

The prestigious Tuscany winery received an excellent score.

The Michele Satta winery has obtained a really important recognition: James Suckling awarded 94 points to Piastraia 2019.

This is an intense, Mediterranean red, with an elegant and complex profile, which makes territoriality one of its distinguishing features. Piastraia has become a symbolic wine of Bolgheri, a magical place where great reds are produced from international grapes. Michele Satta was among the first to realise the area’s potential and in 1991, he planted the vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Syrah and Merlot, which are still the grapes that give life to this wine today.

The vines are harvested and vinified separately, in order to accommodate the ripening times of the different grape varieties and to preserve each grape variety’s specific characteristics. Fermentation takes place in truncated oak barrels using only natural yeasts, with periodic punching-down by hand and pumping-over. After about twenty days, the wine is drawn off and transferred into French oak barrels. The best barrels are then selected to create the final blend, which is then bottled.

Piastraia has a brilliant ruby red colour and an intense bouquet with aromas of dark berries, blackberry and blueberry jam and notes of Mediterranean herbs. Delicately spicy and woody nuances can also be perceived. The palate is ripe and harmonious, with fine structure and aromatic complexity, an evolved tannic texture and a pleasant finish on fresh, balsamic notes.
