MOTTURA SUSTAINABILITY

An overview of the winery’s sustainability concept and practices.

Mottura has its roots in the area where it was founded: Salento. In addition to preserving and passing down the traditional quality and excellence of local wine by using native wine species, it adopts all precautions and checks to reduce environmental impact to a minimum: constant analysis of the soil, attention to water resources, and the use of the best agricultural technologies.

Mottura has always guaranteed the entire production chain, both in terms of its workers as well as the quality and safety of the end product. Safety and sustainability have always formed the basis of its philosophy. In fact, it has been following the Integrated Production Protocol for many years now.

The winery has obtained the National Integrated Production Quality System (SQNPI) certification confirming that all activities in the vineyards are in compliance with the Protocol of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Over recent years Mottura’s commitment to environmental sustainability has become even stronger, in order to enhance the characteristics of the different vine growing zones in the area and to maintain their biological fertility.

The techniques used include the rationed use of water resources, fertilisers and agronomic practices such as suckering and defoliation in order to prevent the formation of damp microclimates in the plant and thus prevent the outbreak of fungal diseases. Mottura adopts mechanical tillage to avoid the use of chemical weed killers and thus maintain the biodiversity of the vineyard.
