JAMES SUCKLING REWARDED CASTELLO DI CIGOGNOLA

The well-known winery in the Oltrepò Pavese area has received an excellent score for one of its wines.

Recently Castello di Cigognola, the prestigious winery of the Moratti family, has obtained another great result: one of its wines has been awarded by James Suckling. The Maga 2016 received 92 points from the well-known wine critic.

The Oltrepò Pavese Barbera DOC “La Maga” is a smooth and elegant wine that combines the best characteristics of Barbera. A vine with character, in which the Moratti family has believed to the point of making it one of the flagship reds of Castello di Cigognola, which over the years has received excellent acclaim from the trade press.

The Barbera grapes are grown on an area of four hectares near the town of Cigognola, using the Guyot method. Maceration lasts about 15 days with the use of alcoholic fermentation, in steel. Secondary fermentation then takes place, which lasts a whole year in French oak barrels containing about 620 litres. Finally there is the refinement, about 2 years, during which the wine is transformed into a more balanced drink.

La Maga has a bright ruby red colour and an intense, elegant and fruity bouquet (black cherry, plum, blueberry), on a spicy texture. On the palate it is soft and harmonious with a spicy aftertaste. Elegant with good persistence.
