Another prestigious award for the well-known winery in Avio.
Over the past few days, the ancient Tenuta San Leonardo winery received an excellent score for one of its wines: James Suckling awarded 94 points to San Leonardo 2017.
“An iconic wine of the estate, it is rooted in its thousand-year history. A classic Bordeaux blend of aristocratic elegance and extraordinary longevity”.
A red wine made from different grape varieties: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Carmenère, 10% Merlot. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in small cement vats for about 15/18 days with several daily pump-overs and délestage. Maturation lasts 24 months in French oak barriques of first, second and third passage.
San Leonardo has an intense ruby red colour and an elegant, floral bouquet, with hints of peony, dried violets, black cherry and clove. The taste is powerful and very fine: from velvety softness and integrated tannin, it passes through a gently herbaceous note, closing in a dry finish with a saline persistence.
