Calatroni‘s 58th harvest began on mid-August, with the picking of the Pinot Noir grapes for the sparkling wine bases. Strictly manual harvesting and in small crates: the picked grapes reached the cellar in less than 20 minutes and immediately began processing to guarantee a high quality final product. After the Pinot Noir, the white grapes were picked and in the coming weeks until the end of October it will be the turn of the dark grapes.
The quality of the grapes is, as always, excellent, thanks to the microclimate beyond the Oltrepò Pavese and the suitable soils. The effects of climate change have been felt, with frequent hailstorms and very hot days that are unfortunately making working conditions difficult. In spite of the severe drought in recent months, the vines have withstood the stress thanks to careful care and intervention, thanks to the use of organic products for prevention and protection, and the tilling of the soil.
