The well-known Oltrepò Pavese winery received an excellent score for one of its wines.
Recently Castello di Cigognola, the prestigious winery of the Moratti family, achieved another great result: one of its wines was awarded by James Suckling. In fact, the Barberasso 2018 wine received 90 points from the well-known wine critic.
Barberasso is a wine that comes from an ancient technique, the cutting of the shoot: this allows for a slight withering while keeping the bunch on the plant, therefore still under the sun’s rays. The grapes thus increase their concentration and continue to develop substances in the skin that enrich the aromatic spectrum. To balance the sweetness, the natural acidity of Barbera is then added; all this through fermentation in part in whole bunches. Finally, the refinement of about half wine takes place in 600-liter tonneaux for about 10 months.
Barberasso is a wine with an intense red color and a remarkable bouquet. On the nose there are notes of ripe wild strawberries and red fruits; on the palate the softness is enlivened by the acidic vibration of Barbera.
