EDOARDO FREDDI INTERNATIONAL FOR LIBERO QUOTIDIANO

The well-known online newspaper reports on the results achieved in the first half of 2023, the market trends, the new winery in the portfolio, and the goals for the end of the year.

Edoardo Freddi International files the first half of 2023 with +7 percent compared to the same period last year. Despite several adverse factors – including transportation issues, market fatigue, and a sales stall in April – the leading Italian export management company in the wine sector is not standing still. Having achieved its goal of closing 2022 with 80 million euros in managed sales, it is now looking confidently at figures for the first half of 2023. With a forecast of +5% in value, the company continues its expansion and consolidation of focus markets, including the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Denmark and the Uk, which for these first six months of 2023 have proven to be the best performing countries with value growth ranging from 3% (U.S.) to 46% (Denmark).

Positive numbers also for the volume growth of bottles marketed, which touches 2% compared to the first half of 2022. The most popular wines? Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Bolgheri Rosso, Lugana, Lagrein, Gavi and Montepulciano, depending on the market. For example, if last Christmas in the United States the sale of Amarone was a success, now is the time for Pinot Grigio, Montepulciano and Vermentino. Germany especially prefers Lugana, Sauvignon and Amarone, while Denmark favors Ripasso, Aglianico and Primitivo di Manduria.

Having favorably closed the first half of 2023, there are several goals that Edoardo Freddi has for the next 6 months. First of all, increasing its market share in Asia – particularly in China, South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam – and in Central and South America. “The latter is a very complex area for export logistically and bureaucratically”, Freddi explains. “Precisely for this reason, I have started a collaboration with brand ambassadors in the area: it is essential to have figures on the ground who can facilitate the introduction of wines through their experience in the area”, he adds.

This is followed by the development of the market for dealcolated and kosher wines. As for the former, the goal is to export 100,000 bottles, with a focus on the U.S., Canada, and Russia. “The demand for this category of wine is growing in different regions of the world”, Edoardo Freddi confirms. “An interesting trend”, he explains, “is the innovation of taste profiles of non-alcoholic wines. Producers are experimenting with different grape varieties, fermentation techniques and aging processes to create wines with different and interesting flavors. Also, with the increasing focus on sustainability and environmental awareness, there is a trend in the low-alcohol wine sector toward sustainable and organic production methods”.

For the kosher wine market, the target countries remain the U.S. (40%), Israel (28%), Canada (11%), U.K. (9%), France (4%) and Germany (3%) with a look toward Eastern countries such as Hungary, Russia and Poland. According to the data collected, growth of 15% in value and 10% in volume is expected for Edoardo Freddi International. “Thanks to their unique production process and adherence to strict standards, kosher wines are experiencing a surge in popularity and gaining greater recognition worldwide. It is evident that these wines have outgrown their religious significance and have become a compelling choice for enthusiasts seeking quality, flavor and a connection to centuries-old wine traditions. Within 3 years I would like to get to export about 1 million bottles”, says Freddi.

Finally, the latest introductions in the portfolio: while waiting to announce the entry of some wineries known for producing fine wines, a new reality has been added to the portfolio. It is Corte Quaiara, a winery with 13 hectares of vineyards, located in San Giorgio in Salici (Sona), in the Veronese hinterland of Lake Garda, which grows non-traditional grapes for the area, such as Pinot Noir, Goldtraminer, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Syrah and Petit Verdot, old Garganega and Oseleta vines. In addition to being founder of the company of the same name, Edoardo Freddi is Ceo of FreedL Group, a group specializing in investments in assets and companies operating in the beverage sector, which holds a majority stake in Veraison Group Spa (formed from the union of Salvaterra, Progetti Agricoli and 4RU, important Italian production companies), promotes the best Italian spirits in the world through Sapiens Spirits and offers a tailor-made service to support Italian wineries in their growth in the national territory through Pergola and Vini al Cubo.
