In the first nine months of 2021, Italian wine shipments exceed 5 billion euros.
“The balance of the first nine months of 2021, as revealed by Istat data, even marks an acceleration, with growth over the same period in 2020 of +15.1%, with turnover rising from 4.45 to 5.13 billion euros”.
Italian wine exports know no bounds; consumption around the world is growing exponentially, especially in the United States where it has reached 1.31 billion euros. Canada, Germany and Great Britain are also registering significant growth and are confirmed as being in the top 5 destinations for Italian wine shipments. “Surprising is the double-digit growth of France, now the third destination for Prosecco exports, behind the USA and the UK”.
According to ISTAT data, analysed by Wine News, in the first 9 months of this year Switzerland imported 292 million euros of wine, marking a +12.7% over the same period in 2020; France 153 million euros (+11.7%) and Sweden 150 million (+11.1%). Germany, the second largest destination market, recorded €815 million for imports, for an overall growth of +7% over the same period in 2020. Encouraging figures also came from the United Kingdom, where wine was imported for a total value of 507 million euros, up 6.1% on 2020.
“It is the data from the United States that is impressive: in just 9 months, the top destination for Italian wine imported €1.31 billion of wine, up +23.6% on 2020. Also not to be underestimated are the signs coming from Canada, with 281.6 million euros of wine imported from Italy (+11.5% over 2020)”.
